Foreign students insist on part-time job rule

Government regulations continue to confuse foreign students, he added.

Another foreign student who declined to be identified said he thought that unpaid work was “okay.”

He volunteers two hours a day at a computer shop.

He said the umbrella permit clearly states that what he is doing is not illegal.

This reporter learned that many foreign students are on paid “internship” programs within their schools that are not related to their courses.

Some of the students said their teachers are “interns” of their school.

They said other employees of their school are also called “interns” who are working at  different departments within the school.

Other foreign students interviewed by this reporter said they engage in “volunteer” and unpaid work outside their schools.

In a recent interview, Commerce Deputy Secretary Sixto Igisomar said they do not recommend foreign students to get volunteer jobs.

“Any work is work,” he said.
