Free medical check-ups for Filipino workers on Rota, Tinian possible

The Philippine Consulate General Office, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration will also have to consult with the medical volunteers, he added.

A volunteer, who declined to be identified, said extending their services to Rota and Tinian will require sufficient financial support.

But, he added, there are many Filipino medical practitioners willing to provide free services.

Macaraig, for his part, is encouraging Filipino professionals in other fields to also initiate programs that will benefit the Filipino community in the CNMI.

The Marianas Association of Filipino Engineers and Architects, the United Filipino Workers and its affiliated groups, CHC medical volunteers, and other Filipino groups have been providing free community services on Saipan.

The recent free medical check-ups for Filipino workers was very impressive, Macaraig said, as he encouraged other Filipino organizations to perform more voluntary services in the CNMI.

Susan Deveyra, a staff nurse of the Commonwealth Health Center and one of the pioneers of the CHC medical volunteer group, said they want to see Filipino medical practitioners on Rota and Tinian to conduct free medical missions in their jurisdictions.

Meantime, Deveyra said she and the other members of the CHC volunteer group will organize, elect their officers and come up with goals that will help them continue their  services to the community.
