The presidential proclamation stated that cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 7.4 million deaths worldwide and projected to continue with an estimation of 12 million deaths in 2030.
More than 70 percent of all cancer deaths occurred in low and middle-income countries and the leading cause of cancer deaths in the Federated States of Micronesia are lung, liver, cervical, mouth, prostate, breast, colorectal and stomach cancer, the proclamation stated.
Mori encouraged citizens, medical institutions, government and social services agencies, business, non-profit organizations, and other interested groups to help prevent cancer by joining the activities that have been organized for that day.
