Fund drive for Philippine typhoon victims gets strong support from community

UFO president Bong Malasarte yesterday said they concluded the one-week fund drive on Sunday with “great support” from the public.

“We are very appreciative of their help,” he added.

Today, Malasarte will meet with Philippine Consulate General Medardo Macaraeg to discuss the turnover of the donations to the Philippine Red Cross which will distribute to the victims.

UFO adviser Olive Yana said they may continue the fund drive to allow others to donate.

“Many have been inquiring,” she said. “They also want to donate.”

Last Dec. 22, UFO started the fund drive at the Filipino Community Inc. pavilion in Susupe and at the Sabalu Market and Street Market at the Paseo de Marianas.

Malasarte said they will continue to receive donations, as long as they are in cash.

Shipping in-kind donations will take weeks to arrive, he added.
