Government to hold village meetings on Interior’s recommendations

The move comes as the CNMI government mounts a campaign in Congress to reject the recommendation mainly over fears that the indigenous people will be disenfranchised in their own homeland once close to 16,000 nonresidents are granted improved immigration status.

In a public announcement, the Indigenous Affairs Office asked all  Chamorros and Carolinians to attend the village meetings so their voices can be heard about the issue.

The first meeting is scheduled for May 13 at 6:30 p.m, at  Oleai Elementary School.

Other meetings will be held on May 13, 6 p.m. at Poon’s Restaurant; May 14, 6:30 p.m. at the Carolinian Utt; May 18, 6:30 p.m. at the Kagman Community Center; May 19, 6:30 p.m. at Koblerville Elementary School; and May 20, 6:30 p.m. at the Tanapag Social Hall.

Vice Speaker Felicidad T. Ogumoro, Covenant-Saipan, is also spearheading the village meetings.
