His declaration essentially gives government workers a long holiday — from Thursday, Christmas Day, through the weekend.
“In line with the Christmas season of giving, I hereby grant administrative leave to all government employees on Friday, Dec. 26, 2008,” the governor said in his memo.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to greet each and everyone a blessed Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year,” he added.
The Legislative Bureau held its Christmas party yesterday.
Other government agencies are also expected to hold theirs this week.
The CNMI government employs more than 4,000 people.
The Legislature approved a $156.7 million budget for the CNMI this fiscal year 2009 with provision allowing each department or agency to cut their personnel or operations spending by 10 percent.
The budget bill is up for action this week but the governor has yet to decide whether he will approve it.
