“I drive myself. I work long hours anyways and I come home late at night. I only have four hours of sleep,” he told reporters.
He said he didn’t ask the Department of Public Safety to assign him another driver-bodyguard.
Fitial said Reyes claimed that he, the driver, was being framed up.
Last month, Reyes entered a guilty plea to one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
The governor said Reyes never apologized or spoke to him after his arrest.
“I feel sorry for the driver and his family. But I cannot stand in the way of the judicial process,” he added.
