Rota DYS wants to manage Sinapalo Youth Center

“My goal is to activate various youth prevention and development activities and programs at the center,” he added.

DYS is mandated to provide youth services to the community and the Sinapalo facility is built for the youth community, he said.

According to Toves, DYS is now looking forward to receiving the official documents  so their office can start moving in the center and  implement its action plans.

Toves said he want to use the facility to its maximum potential.

DYS is the only agency that can gain custody of the facility and use it for the purpose it was intended pursuant to the Community Development Block Grant programs, he added.

As an artist, Toves said he wants to share his talent and skills with the youth in Rota by teaching them to write and record songs and form a band with the guidance of volunteers among the recording artists and musicians on Rota.

He said this will deter the youth from engaging in delinquent activities.

“There are a lot more youth development activities planned for the center that I will announce at a later time.”

Although there are not many opportunities for youth development when he was young, Toves said he sees a lot of potentials today in a technologically advanced world.

“I believe I can contribute to lead the youth to discover their passion and harness their hidden potentials,” Toves said.

DYS, he added, continues to educate the community and inform the people about its mission.

DYS doesn’t exist to take children away from their home and break up families, he said.

Their ultimate goal is to help families stay together and function as a unit, he added.

“I also wish more people in the community would come out of the closet and report suspected child abuse for the sake of the children — we should not allow indifference to hinder the protection of abused children in need of our help.”
