Gov’t employees to get paid on Citizenship Day

In his memorandum on Friday, Fitial said aside from  Austerity Friday on Nov. 5, government offices will be closed on Nov. 2 and Nov. 4.

This means that government employees will work only two days this week.

However, the governor said government employees who are not scheduled to work on Citizenship Day “shall be paid, charging available annual leave hours for this holiday.”

The employees who are scheduled to work on this day, he added, will be paid their regular pay.

In an interview yesterday, Fitial said he allowed the employees to get paid on Citizenship Day “to reduce the suffering of the people.”

They employees, he said, will get paid even if they don’t work on Citizenship Day.

Press Secretary Angel A. Demapan said the budget law, or P.L. 17-21, is very specific as to which of the holidays the governor can convert into a paid holiday with leave.
