Gregory to take over Inos’ clients

Until Gov. Benigno R. Fitial names Gregory’s successor, Deputy Attorney General Greg Baka will be the acting AG.

The Senate confirmed Inos’ nomination during a session last Thursday on Rota.

This weekend, Gregory announced to his friends that he would be resigning.

The governor said he hasn’t discussed the issue with Gregory.

“I know that he’s waiting for me to talk about it, but I’ve been really busy these past days,” Fitial said.

In a separate interview, Gregory said he’s leaving the AG’s Office because he wants to actively pursue his private practice.

“I think I’m going to go on my own. No partners. It will probably be a solo practice again. I may have an associate or two down the road. But now, it’s just me,” he said.

Like the governor and other key administration officials, Gregory is a former employee of Tan Holdings, which is also the publisher of the Saipan Tribune.

Gregory said he is “lucky to have been surrounded with selfless and dedicated prosecutors, public defenders and other government attorneys and staff.”

“It was wonderful working with the people at the AG’s office,” he added, “I have to say that the [Attorney General’s Investigative Unit] and the AG’s Office attorneys and staff are wonderful people. They work hard, even coming on weekends,” he said.

“The government doesn’t always take our advice but we work and try to help the government the best way we can. They [AGO staff] are selfless. They are doing what is right, going after criminals. I think our people have done a great job with far less money,” he added.
