On June 14, 2011, the Army will mark the 236th birthday of the establishment of the nation’s land-based military branch.
The Army played an important role in the liberation of Guam during World War II. Their commitment to free the people of Guam from oppressive forces has helped the Guamanian community to prosper over the years.
Thousands of Guamanians have chosen to serve the United States Army. Their hard work and dedication has secured freedom in war-stricken areas, and in our island community. Thousands of Guam’s sons and daughters have sacrificed their lives as well as their families’ lives to secure the livelihood of Americans and Guamanians alike.
In a signing ceremony that Tenorio presided over, he stated, “Many of our sons and daughters have served and continue to serve in the Army. They defend our way of life and ensure our freedom despite the sacrifices required of them. I commend all of you for your service to and defense of our community. Governor Calvo and I support and salute you.”
Also in attendance were U.S. Army Retirement Association president Celine Sanchez Guzman, vice president Tony Guzman, Guam Police Department Chief Fred Bordallo, Guam Department of Corrections Director Jose San Agustin, and members of the U.S. Army National Guard.
