In an interview, Guerrero said the main of focus of his campaign will be a “comprehensive and concise platform to provide a dependable, reliable and affordable power supply to the people of the commonwealth.”
A former Commonwealth Utilities Corp. executive director, Guerrero won a Saipan senatorial seat in 1999 as a Reform Party candidate. He lost in his re-election bid in 2003.
Guerrero said he has started disseminating bumper stickers that read, “Yes 2 Kumoi for Governor 2009.”
He said he decided to run because the CNMI economy continues to get worse despite “many politicians are always talking about it, yet nothing concrete has been done.”
Guerrero, who chaired the campaign committee of former Judge Juan T. Lizama’s losing congressional delegate bid, said he will leave it to his constituents who they want to be his running mate.
But in case the people will allow him pick his running mate, Guerrero said he will choose someone who, like him, wakes up early and works early.
According to Guerrero, a lot of people who are disappointed with the way things are have convinced him to run.
Many people, he added, are complaining about not being able to afford basic necessities due to the high utility cost.
Many people are leaving the islands because they can no longer afford to live here, he said.
According to Guerrero, he has started talking with groups of people who are likely to form his campaign committee. They will meet for the second time this weekend.
“I consider myself as the man who can do the job and will be responsible in looking after the needs of the people,” Guerrero said.
His vision, he added, is very clear and that is to provide the CNMI a reliable and affordable power, water and sewer systems that are key to economic development.
