The Board of Education first implemented, on an emergency basis, the differential pay incentive for Head Start teachers during school year 2008-2009.
The board and the Head Start Policy Council agreed to make this incentive program permanent.
The rules were permanently adopted after publication in the Commonwealth Register last month.
The CNMI Head Start program is federally funded and provides early childhood developmental services to low-income children aged three to five.
There are 12 Head Start centers throughout Saipan, Tinian and Rota serving over 500 children.
BOE Chairwoman Lucia L. Blanco-Maratita has tasked Education Commissioner Rita A. Sablan to be in-charge of the CNMI’s Head Start supplemental grant application.
