Power stability still a concern, says Reyes

“This is a very serious concern of the people,” he added.

Reyes, R-Saipan, said the power issue and the economy were repeatedly mentioned by the people he met during his visits to the villages.

If re-elected, he said he will push aggressively for an alternative energy program.

He noted that there have been several alternative energy proposals presented to the Legislature and the administration in the past months.

Gov. Benigno R. Fitial earlier disclosed that more than a dozen companies had expressed interest in submitting proposals regarding “green technologies” — wind, solar, biodiesel, ocean waves and geothermal.

Reyes is hoping that once the election is over, all officials will agree to address the CNMI’s power problems.

“We want to put aside politics and work for the best interest of the people,” he added.
