Healthcare providers undergo training

The five-day session for healthcare providers has drawn the participation of 48 individuals from Saipan, Tinian, Rota and Guam.

Turner-Maffei underscored the need to breastfeed newly born babies “during the first six months of life.”

Newly born babies must be provided anti-bodies by their lactating mothers, she added.

Babies who are not breastfed are more likely to become obese, she said.

Statistics from the Women, Infants and Children program noted that about 1,287 infants are breastfed on Saipan, Rota and Tinian.
