Hopwood has highest student-teacher ratio among public schools

Hopwood has 1,140 students and only 41 classroom teachers for a student teacher ratio of 28:1.

Due to the inadequate budget allocation from the CNMI government, PSS cannot hire all the teachers it needs.

Saipan Southern High School has the second highest student-teacher ratio — 27 to 1.

The school has 728 students and only 27 teachers.

There is overcrowding in classrooms due to the lack of specialized teachers in content areas like English, and this has forced the school to offer a fifth period class, extending the instruction time beyond the 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m. schedule implemented by PSS.

Kagman High School has the third highest  student-teacher ratio with 26  to 1.

KagHS has 784 students and 30 classroom teachers.

Chacha Oceanview Junior High School and Marianas High School have a 24 to 1 student-teacher ratio.

 Chacha has 447 students and 19 teachers, while MHS has 1,220 students and 51 teachers.

In the elementary level, William S. Reyes  has a 23:1 student-teacher ratio while Oleai, Kagman, Dandan, San Antonio, and Koblerville have  22:1.

Garapan and San Vicente have 21:1; Tanapag, 19:1; Gregorio T. Camacho, Sinapalo, and Tinian Elementary, 17:1.

Tinian Junior and Senior High School has 301 students and 16 teachers for a ratio of 19:1.

Rota Junior High has a 15:1 ratio for its 133 students and 10 teachers, while Rota High’s ratio is 17:1 for its 169 students and 10  teachers.

For this school year, PSS has 10,369 kindergarten to 12th grade students and 462 teachers for an overall student to teacher ratio of 22:1.
