House commends NMI’s first ensign in US Coast Guard

A graduate of Mount Carmel School, Torres is one of the founding members of the Mt. Carmel Chapter of the Junior Statesmen of America which enabled her and some other students to participate in the JSA Summer School Program in Northwestern University, Georgetown University and Stanford University in 2001.

House Commemorative Resolution 16-3 was offered by House Minority Leader Oscar M. Babauta, Covenant-Saipan, and Rep. Stanley T. Torres, R-Saipan.

The House unanimously adopted the resolution with lawmakers expressing the hope that Christine DLC. Torres’s academic achievements would also inspire other local students.

While still studying on Saipan, she actively participated in community activities.

She was a pianist and choir member of the San Jose Church and the Mount Carmel Cathedral.

She hosted the Teen Talk Live show from 2001 to 2002 and was the vice speaker in the Fourth CNMI Youth Congress.

When Christine DLC. Torres received her commission as an ensign in the U.S. Coast Guard, she was also recognized for her outstanding performance at the academy.

She received the Commandant’s Letter of Commendation, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Meritorious Team Commendation, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Pistol Sharpshooter Badge.

 The CNMI’s first ensign is the daughter of Antonio T. Torres and Consolacion Dela Cruz Torres.
