House drafts revenue generating bill

Rep. Trenton B, Conner, in an interview yesterday, said that after the bicameral conference committee agreed to remove the Senate’s revenue generation proposals from H.B. 17-45, the House Ways and Means Committee immediately came up with a draft for a separate bill.

“The draft is already done, it is just a matter of fine tuning it,” said Conner, R-Tinian.

He said the House wants to look at other revenue generating measures.

“It is clear to us that the administration does not want measures that will hurt the consumers,” Conner said.

The Senate earlier proposed to increase the excise tax on tobacco products, alcoholic drinks and mobile phones. It also proposed an increase in the fees imposed on amusement machines and automated teller machines, and a reduction in the tax rebate rates.

Conner expects the administration to “toss in” its own revenue generating proposals.
