House OKs hiring of Tinian trades specialist

Attorney Ramon K. Quichocho, who has been critical of the mayor’s hiring policies and handling of public funds, said he recognizes Tinian’s need for more DPW personnel.

In an interview yesterday shortly after the House adopted House Joint Resolution 17-31, Quichocho said he found out that DPW on Tinian had four employees only and lacked a trades specialist.

“I just hope, wish and pray that the position will be announced openly and the applicants will be evaluated fairly and not just hand-picked from particular families and friends,” he added.

Quichocho said lawmakers must be more aware of what is really going on with Tinian’s finances.

Earlier this month, Dela Cruz requested the Legislature to allow him to fill the vacancy for the trades specialist’s post.

DPW on Tinian, the mayor said, has no equipment operator or ground maintenance worker whose main responsibility is to maintain public roads.

Tinian DPW, he added, “has to assign individuals from solid waste management division to maintain the roads. But in the event of typhoon, DPW does not have a trained equipment operators to respond.”

For his part, Quichocho said, “I support more opportunities for the people of Tinian. We just have to do it the proper way.”
