Humanities Council names 2009 officers

Cabrera, who is the dean of academic programs and services at Northern Marianas College, has served on the council’s board since Sept. 2005.  She was first elected chairwoman in April 2008.

The board also elected Charles P. Reyes Jr. as vice chairman and William R. Barrineau as secretary/treasurer.

Reyes, who joined the board in May 2008, is Gov. Benigno R. Fitial’s press secretary.

 He is one of three gubernatorial appointees on the council’s 13-member board.

Barrineau is a retired educator and former Humanities Council executive director, a position he held for nearly 10 years.  He will be serving his second term as the council’s secretary/treasurer.

The council is a private, non-profit corporation with 501 (C) (3) tax status that was established in 1991.  

It provides a variety of educational initiatives and humanities programs to lifelong learners in the community.
