Illegal dumping in CK cemetery area continues

THE illegal dumping of household and other trash continues in the Chalan Kanoa cemetery area, community volunteer Max Aguon said.

“People continue to dump their trash inside the cemetery, and we also found trash illegally dumped on an adjacent private property,” he added.

“Please don’t do that, it’s not good,” he said as he once again asked members of the community to dispose of their trash properly.

On Thursday, Aguon and another volunteer, Pete Palacios, collected and properly disposed of the garbage they found in the cemetery area.

He said he will ask the Saipan Mayor’s Office to assist him in collecting illegally dumped trash because the volume is “too much” for his truck alone.

“We will also put additional ‘No Dumping’ signs in the CK cemetery area,” Aguon added.

The CNMI has an anti-littering law, but it is seldom enforced — if at all.

Aguon is a recipient of many commendations and awards for his islandwide cleanup activities that also help promote environmental awareness in the community.

For supporting his volunteer work, Aguon said he is grateful to DPA Car Mart, the CMG Mobil gas station in San Jose, and U.S. Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan.

He also thanked Precinct 2 Reps. John Paul Sablan and Manny Castro for supplying him with materials to clean public restrooms on the island.
