He said Danilo Rejano was trying to “negotiate” getting the two-year umbrella permit when arrested.
Doca said they don’t know why Rejano was arrested since Immigration refused to talk to them.
Rejano was brought to the Department of Corrections, and his younger brother, Ramon Rejano, told Variety that they were not allowed to see their brother.
His sister Violeta was told by the Corrections officer that they could only talk with her brother two weeks from his arrest.
Doca said they checked with the Criminal Investigation Division and learned that Danilo Rejano had no criminal record.
He has a deportation case, however.
His elder brother refused to go back to the Philippine after his divorce with a local resident, Ramon Rejano said.
“He got an immediate relative status but after his divorce he continued to work.”
He said his brother is an auto body repairman.
Jun Concillado, Pilcowa president, said they were confused about the arrest because another overstaying foreigner with a deportation case was not arrested and was given an umbrella permit.
Rabby Syed, United Workers Movement president, said they are asking the Attorney’s General Office to release Danilo Rejano.
“Immigration should be more careful. They should verify the case of the person before making an arrest,” he said.
Concillado noted that Rejano’s name was on the AGO’s list of 628 individuals that will be given an umbrella permit.
