Inos modifies Namauleg’s bail

Superior Court Associate Judge Perry B. Inos on Wednesday granted the motion for bail modification filed by the Public Defender’s Office on behalf of John Vincent Matagolai Namauleg.

Inos required Namauleg to post $500, or 10 percent of $5,000, and the remaining $4,500 as unsecured or appearance bond.

Inos directed Namauleg not to have any contact with the corrections officer, his wife and their family.

Namauleg was held without bail on the charge of assault and disturbing the peace of a corrections officer.

Assistant Public Defender Douglas W. Hartig who is representing Namauleg, argued that Inos’ earlier no bail ruling was “illegal,” since it violated his client’s rights to be released on bail.

Hartig said Namauleg needed to maintain an income to support his child and pay restitution in an unrelated case.

Hartig said his client has no passport and is a lifelong Saipan resident.

Assistant Attorney General Brian Gallagher represented the government.

For violating his probation, Namauleg had to spend his weekends at the corrections facility.
