Interoperable Communications Tabletop Exercise and Drill starts today, Nov. 14

(HSEM) — The CNMI Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management in partnership with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency is pleased to announce the 2024 Interoperable Communications Tabletop Exercise and Drill or COMMEX 2024, scheduled for November 14, 15, 19, and 20, 2024.

This four-day COMMEX 2024 exercise and related events will be held at Saipan World Resort, Garapan Central Park, and the Emergency Operations Center. COMMEX 2024 will bring emergency response teams and partners from local, state, federal, and non-governmental organizations to test communication capabilities and redundancies in the region.

A two-day discussion-based tech session with FirstNet will be held at Saipan World Resort on November 14 and 15, 2024.

The tabletop exercise is focused on communication policies, procedures, plans, available assets, and capabilities used by regional agencies in response to a multi-jurisdiction incident held at Saipan World Resort on November 19, 2024.

The tabletop discussion will cover the following:

• Interoperable communications policies and procedures.

• Alternate communication pathways that could be utilized if primary communication fails.

• Continuity of operations during a communications failure.

The drill is to practice and become more familiar with the navigation and use of radio and data communications equipment associated with public safety operations in the CNMI held at Garapan Central Park on November 20, 2024.

The drill will allow participants to:

• Practice interoperable communications with CNMI, Guam, federal responders, and private agency personnel.

• Navigate radio systems and radio equipment in a controlled setting.

• Practice implementing policies and procedures as they affect communication within a public safety incident.

Exercise participants are from all agencies and disciplines within the CNMI, and agencies that may provide mutual aid support during a major multi-jurisdictional weather-related incident in the CNMI.
