MEMBERS of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 or the “Island Knights” held a community outreach opportunity at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport on Wednesday, June 26.
Local residents were given the opportunity to take a closer look at a U.S. Navy MH-60S helicopter.
Lt. Richly Olopai Babauta works for the Navy Recruiting Processing Station on Guam and is originally from Saipan. He helped organize the community outreach event. He said it was an opportunity for the crew and locals to interact.
“The Navy saw the opportunity where we can really showcase HSC 25, a Guam-based squadron, that really has never had a chance to interface with the CNMI public,” he said. “They [the crew] are on call. They’ve come down to conduct search and rescue missions here in the islands. This is a way to open up the helicopter to the community and talk about what they do.”
Navy recruiters were also on site.
“We also want to offer the community an opportunity to learn what the Navy has in terms of career options,” Babauta said.
