Kagman JROTC ‘serenades’ manamko’

The cadets, who were accompanied by 12 special education students, sang Christmas carols and gave the senior citizens hand-made cards and candies.

It was the group’s ninth visit to the Aging Center, Master Sgt. James Burke, JROTC program manager, said.

“We always feel the warmth when we come here to celebrate with them. This is also an eye-opening experience for the cadets,” he said.

Last year, the school’s entire JROTC battalion trooped to the center for their Christmas presentation.

Because of budget constraints, Burke said only 22 cadets participated this year.

The rifle team  performed an exhibition outside the center before they sang 12 Christmas carols with the special education students led by  program manager Ann Yamada.

Aging Center program coordinator Walter Manglona said the manamko’  were very excited about the rifle drill.

“They performed very well,” he said, referring to the cadets.

Teresita Sorroza, Senior Citizens Advisory Council president, said they appreciate the many talents of the students.

“These give us energy. Their performances are always worth watching,” she added.

She also extended her gratitude to the Matua Riders who presented a $500 donation to the council during its visit last week.
