Karidat provides rental assistance to 287 families

The church-based charitable organization recently received $27,500 from the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program Phase 37, and $34,726 from the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program Phase CARES. “All to be used for rental assistance,” Ogumoro said.

At this time, she added, Karidat has processed over 400 of the over 600 applications on the Covid-19 rental assistance waiting list. Karidat remains focused on processing the remainder of applications to ensure families in need have access to this resource, she added.

“If you are on the waiting list, you do not need to take any further action, as you will remain on the waiting list until Karidat processes your application. If you have any other questions regarding the Covid-19 Rental Assistance Program, please feel free to call Karidat at 234-6981.”

Ogumoro said Karidat will post a notice when new applications will be accepted again.

In Oct. 2019, Karidat received a $233,948 grant from Catholic Charities USA to help families that were still recovering from Super Typhoon Yutu.

In April this year, Ogumoro said they received an additional grant of $185,000 from the same organization.

She said the grantor allowed Karidat to extend financial assistance to people who have lost their jobs or were furloughed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
