Teresita Sorroza, Senior Citizen Advisory Council president, said they want the manamko’s programs unhampered by austerity Fridays.
Sablan, who visited the center on Friday to treat the manamko’ to a Thanksgiving lunch, said he is concerned about the impact of the austerity measures on the senior citizens.
“Some of the programs and agencies providing grants to the senior center are also concerned about these austerity measures because they are actually reducing the services intended for the programs,” Sablan said. “I am just concerned as they are.”
Sablan said Gov. Benigno R. Fitial and officials from the Administration on Aging Region IX discussed this issue in San Francisco early this month.
“I am hoping that something would come out of that discussion,” he said.
He said he will also urge the governor to consider the request of the Aging Center.
Rose DLG Mondala, Aging Office director, said she is hoping Sablan could help them.
“We are so grateful for the congressman for being so generous to the manamko’,” she said.
In an email, Anna Cwirko-Godycki, Administration on Aging Region IX aging services program specialist, told Variety they have already requested detailed information regarding the austerity measures from Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary Melvin O. Faisao and Mondala.
