Labor has new acting director

“I’m going back to my previous post,” former Labor Director Barry Hirshbein said.

Glenda Reyes is the new acting labor director.

Reyes was previously assigned to the processing division.

When asked about the reason for the reshuffle, Hirshbein referred this reporter to Deputy Labor Secretary Cinta M. Kaipat.

As of press time, Kaipat had yet to reply to the questions e-mailed by the Variety.

Hirshbein will join Herbert D. Soll and Jerry Cody in the hearing office.

Variety was told that Hirshbein was re-assigned to his previous position to work on the administrative cases that are piling up  due to limited manpower.

Based on the Department of Labor’s Web site, the hearing office has scheduled to hear 22 complaints.

In its recent Interim Progress Report  on the Implementation of Public Law 15-108, Kaipat mentioned the hiring of Eli Golob as the department’s new counsel.

She said Golob, who formerly practiced in Arizona and New York, has experience in trial work and administrative hearings.

She said Golob will help reduce the backlog of pending labor cases in the Superior Court, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. National Labor Relations Board and the U.S. Department of Labor.
