Lawmakers honor late Senate President Adriano

A Republican, Adriano served as Senate president from Jan. 2004 to Jan. 2006 — the first Tinian lawmaker to hold the post.

The late lawmaker is survived by his wife and four children.

Adriano studied criminal justice at Northern Marianas College and graduated from the Police Academy.

He began his career as a police officer 1 and rose to become a police captain and later as operational commander of the Department of Public Safety on Tinian.

In 1992, Adriano was elected chairman of the  Tinian and Aguiguan Municipal Council.

Two years after, he was elected the Tinian member for the House of Representatives.

In 1998, Adriano won a seat in the Senate and served as the chairman of the Tinian legislative delegation and the Senate Standing Committee on Federal Relations and Independent Agencies.

In 2002, he was re-elected and became the president of the Senate in 2004.

“The late Honorable Joaquin G. Adriano, throughout his career of public service, exhibited marked ability and attentiveness for the culture and tradition of the islands and was an able, effective, dedicated and trusted servant, who will be missed not only by his family, but also by his colleagues and the people of the second senatorial district,” Senate Commemorative Resolution 16-03 stated.

“The Senate hereby expresses its sincere condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family of the late Honorable Joaquin G. Adriano on the occasion of his untimely passing and pays fond tribute to his memory,” it added.
