Edward Manibusan, a former Superior Court presiding judge, said although the Department of Public Lands delayed the release of the requested documents, “I am satisfied with [what] they have provided me.”
One of the representatives of the Marianas Resort Development Corp., which intends to build a casino on Tinian, Manibusan said his review of Kumho Asiana’s lease agreement has “nothing to do with any other projects or investments.”
Manibusan said he believes there are “serious concerns” with the Kumho Asiana lease agreement.
“I will review it thoroughly and if there’s an issue that has to be addressed…it will be addressed in proper time,” he said without elaborating.
Under the lease agreement, Kumho Asiana will pay $103,002 a year for the 161-hectare property in Kagman where the golf course is situated. The previous rent amount was $384,000 a year.
The agreement’s proponents said the construction project will spur economic activity in the next year and a half.
The planned resort development will include 12-story buildings with 128 rooms, as well as seven luxury villas.
The development will also improve facilities for golfers. In addition to three new recreation clubhouses for golfers, current golf courses will be redesigned to meet world golf championship standards, Kumho Asiana said.
The target completion date for the new facilities is July 1, 2009.
