Liberation queen candidates visit Aging Center

Tina Pangelinan, Liberation Queen Committee chairwoman, said the event was the fourth official public appearance of the candidates.

Only five of the 10 candidates were present:  Rayna Anabeth Deleon Guerrero Chong, Marla Helbert, Zelma Alyssa Dela Cruz Santos, Angela Bermudes Aldan, and Sashana Igitol Atalig.

Last week, the candidates joined other government officials in the “Family Day and Big Truck” celebration of the Division of Youth Services.

They also joined the mayor during the Japanese Peace Memorial observance in Marpi and the signing of the Memorial Day proclamation in the governor’s conference room.

At the Aging Center, each candidate was given a chance to  meet the senior citizens.

Mayor Donald Flores said they will also have Liberation queen candidates from Rota and Tinian as he encouraged senior citizens to support the month-long Liberation Day events that will start on June 4.

Each Liberation queen candidate was allotted 1,000 tickets which they need to sell. They will get 20 percent of the total proceeds.

In a separate interview, Aging Office director Rose Mondala said the manamko’ will join the Liberation Day parade despite their office’s financial constraint.

However, she said they will only showcase the 2009 manamko’ king and queen.

Mondala said she still have to discuss with the senior citizens if they can get a bigger vehicle for their float to allow more of them to join the parade.
