Fuel Adjustment Charge increases for April due to rising fuel prices

(CUC) — The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation announces that the Fuel Adjustment Charge will increase from $0.22075 per kWh to $0.24500 per kWh effective April 1, 2026.

Due to the continued increase in global oil prices, the calculated FAC rate for April 2026 is $0.44489 per kWh. However, in accordance with the Commonwealth Public Utilities Commission order lifting the FAC tariff freeze, which took effect on March 15, 2026, CUC is required to obtain CPUC approval before implementing any FAC rate exceeding $0.24500 per kWh.

As a result, CUC will implement the capped rate of $0.24500 per kWh for April while it has formally submitted a request to CPUC for review and approval of the full calculated rate.

The FAC is one of two components that make up the CUC electric charge, and is strictly for fuel and fuel-related purchases. The second component is the CUC base rate, which has not increased since April 2014 and is used to fund personnel, operations, projects, debt services, and other non-fuel-related expenses.
