(CNMI HSEM) — The CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management Office is closely monitoring a potential tropical disturbance developing in Eastern Micronesia that could approach the Marianas next week.
According to the National Weather Service-Guam Weather Forecast Office, confidence continues to grow that a tropical disturbance may form over the next few days somewhere in Eastern Micronesia. Long-range forecast scenarios indicate the potential system could pass near or through the Marianas next week, between May 3 and 7.
While the system has yet to develop and therefore, not yet a direct threat to the islands, officials advise residents and businesses to remain alert and to always monitor official sources of information from the CNMI Joint Information Center and the U.S. National Weather Service-Guam.
“Although it is still too early to know the exact track or intensity of this system, the public should stay informed and be prepared,” said CNMI HSEM Special Assistant Clement Bermudes. “We will continue to monitor the situation closely and share updates as more information becomes available.”
HSEM continues to coordinate with NWS-Guam and regional partners and will provide additional information as conditions evolve.
Residents are encouraged to monitor official updates from CNMI HSEM and NWS Guam and avoid sharing unverified information.
