Mayor RB restores Garapan basketball court’s backboard

(Press Release) — The Saipan Mayor’s Office, under the leadership of Mayor Ramon “RB” Camacho, continues its commitment to empowering youth through islandwide sports initiatives, despite ongoing challenges posed by vandalism and rising crime.

Camacho has launched youth sports programs from precinct to precinct with the goal of promoting healthy lifestyles, fostering leadership, and steering young people away from drugs, crime, and other negative influences. Since taking office, the mayor has remained steadfast in using recreational sports and youth tournaments to bring communities together and uplift morale across the island.

While acts of vandalism continue to threaten public facilities, the mayor is making a heartfelt plea for community support in reporting criminal activity to help prevent further damage and to safeguard youth from becoming victims of crime.

Despite setbacks — including vandalism, crime concerns, and environmental challenges — the mayor remains committed to partnering with local leaders, government agencies, private-sector businesses, and community organizations to strengthen these initiatives and build healthier, safer communities.

On Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, Mayor Camacho, along with BL Machine Shop owner Romeo “Bobbie” Villa, and the BL Machine Shop team, reinstalled a brand-new glass backboard at the Garapan basketball court for the benefit of the community and its youth.

Support from the Carolinian Affairs Office, the Department of Lands and Natural Resources-Parks and Recreation, local sports organizations, and community members has been instrumental in advancing youth sports programs and promoting a safe village, safe community, and clean island.

The Saipan Mayor’s Office thanks the community for its continued support and cooperation in working toward a safer and brighter future for the CNMI.
