New law directs gambling revenue to education, festivals, and community programs

GOVERNOR David M. Apatang has approved House Local Bill 24-50, appropriating $676,858 in pachinko and poker machine license fee collections for various projects and programs on Saipan.

Authored by Rep. Ralph N. Yumul, H.L.B. 24-50 is now Saipan Local Law 24-25. Of the total gambling revenues, the law   allocates $250,000 for Saipan Higher Education and Financial Assistance and $426,858 for these recipients:

– 45th Annual Flame Tree Festival, $60,000.

– CNMI American 250 Commission, $20,000.

– Saipan Little League Baseball, $15,000.

– Mariana Islands Nature Alliance, $25,000.

– Micronesian Islands Forum Inaugural Leaders Summit, $25,000.

– Saipan Mayor’s Office for the purchase of base course for road repairs, $100,000.

– Micronesian Legal Services Corporation, $38,000.

–San Vicente Children’s Park repairs $15,000.

– Youth Congress summit, $5,858.

– Office on Aging’s ID card printer, $5,000.

– Belau Amateur Softball Association, $10,000.

– Legislative Bureau’s personnel and operational expenses, $108,000.
