Local performer back after series of concerts in the US

Yobei told the Variety yesterday that the shows were just “awesome” and he may be coming back for another round of performances, this time in the central part of the mainland U.S. next year.

“I enjoyed meeting a lot of people from Micronesia and Polynesia in all of the performances which I conducted every weekend in different places from Seattle where we were based, to the Portland area,” Yobei said.

He said during the concerts and performances, he met a lot of people who had been listening to his songs for several years.

“It feels great to meet ‘fans’ who asked to have photos with me and asked for autographs but most of all it feels good that a lot of people love our Pacific Island music,” Yobei said.

He performed at the 1st United Nesia Festival last month at the Portland State University Ballroom, the biggest and most anticipated event of the summer that showcased talents of various performers from Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia.

“There were so many young and new groups that have sprouted and I am happy for this interest that the young people are showing for music,” Yobei said.

He also sold copies of his CDs and gave out some as souvenirs during his performances.

Yobei extends his thanks to the organizers of the concert tour such as the eXpose Thyself Entertainment, Betelnut Radio, Island Session and KMMNWLTH and to all the other individuals who supported him for the whole time.

Yobei said it was his first time to perform on the West Coast.

“It was really an experience meeting and performing with other artists from all over the Pacific Islands,” he said.

Yobei is back to work finishing his sixth CD which he hopes to mass produce next month.

“My latest CD will have 15 new songs which I composed and set to music. Hopefully I can have everything finished and have the master copy sent to the Philippines next month so the public can avail of copies,” Yobei said.

Copies of Yobei’s previous CDs are available at Martha’s Store in Garapan.
