The victim asked Buchun to help take care of their infant child, police said.
Govendo remanded Buchun to the custody of the Department of Corrections after his initial court appearance and bail hearing.
On Feb. 25, at about 1:37 a.m., police responded to a disturbance incident in the parking lot of a hotel in San Antonio, according to Detective Catherine Pangelinan.
Police met the victim who was crying.
Prior to the incident, a friend visited the victim at her residence.
The victim requested her friend to accompany her in looking for her partner so he could help take care of their infant child.
The victim met with Buchun who was drinking with his friends at a hotel barracks.
Buchun got angry after the victim told him to go home to take care of their baby. He was also upset that the victim brought her friend with her.
Buchun grabbed the victim and threw her to the ground, police said.
Buchun got on top of the victim and started choking her, police added.
The victim’s friend tried to help her get up, but Buchun slapped the friend on the face, police said.
Buchun later confronted responding Patrol Officer Isapen Bokuku and told the officer to shoot him, the defendant.
Buchun also threw rocks at parked patrol cars, police said.
Buchun then ran and made his way into the Pacific Islands Club premises.
He managed to hide from the officers and remained out of sight.
At about 3:20 a.m., however, PIC security personnel called police after Buchun was found sleeping in the kitchen area.
