Elvis Bisala Tibong, 33, was booked and detained for assault and battery and disturbing the peace of his wife who was placed on observation at the labor and delivery section of the Commonwealth Health Center after the incident.
Detective Peter Aldan said the hospital reported the case to police.
Prior to the incident, Tibong was trying to put their son to sleep.
The mother heard their son crying so she came to see what was happening in his room.
She told the police she saw the defendant holding his son’s mouth so she pushed him away.
Tibong then physically assaulted her, she added.
“She was not sure whether she was being kicked or punched on her body. After the incident, Elvis brought the victim to the hospital’s emergency room, where she was transferred to the labor and delivery section for observation of her nine-month-old unborn baby,” Aldan said.
A police officer who interviewed the victim described her as “having blackish bruising around the left eye which was swollen, with scratches on the left side of her head and her lower lip was swollen and bleeding.”
Tibong was arrested at the hospital around 11:39 of Sunday night while the victim was placed under further observation.
The police recommended a $1,500 bail for Tibong’s release.
