Superior Court Judge David A. Wiseman granted Assistant Attorney General Peter Prestley’s recommendation of a $50,000 bail after the court found probable cause for Imperial’s arrest on Thursday.
Imperial was being held on charges of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree, indecent exposure, child abuse or neglect, and unlawful exploitation of a minor.
Imperial appeared in court for his probable cause hearing on Friday afternoon and was later remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections.
Wiseman appointed Chief Public Defender Adam Hardwicke as counsel for Imperial, who is jobless.
Detective Melissa Bauleong, the government witness, said police received a call regarding a sexual abuse of a minor case at Hopwood Jr. High School at about 3:12 p.m., Thursday.
Police said students were seen in a classroom “watching something” on a laptop owned by the victim.
When school officials checked, they saw a video of the victim and Imperial performing a lewd act.
When asked by police and school officials, the boy identified Imperial, who is related to the victim, as the one on the video who was partly seen from waist down.
It was not determined how the video ended on the child’s school-issued laptop.
Police were still investigating the case.
