Man assaults girlfriend for spilling food he cooked

IOKAPUS Diopulos is accused of assaulting his girlfriend after she spilled the food he cooked for the family.

Diopulos, 44, on Wednesday appeared before Superior Court Associate Judge Wesley Bogdan and waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

Diopulos was charged with assault, assault and battery, vandalism, and disturbing the peace.

He was represented by Assistant Public Defender Emily Thomsen while Assistant Attorney General Frances Demapan appeared for the government.

Diopulos was remanded to the custody of the Department of Correction after the hearing, and was ordered to return to the court for an arraignment on Sept. 18 at 9 a.m.

Judge Bogdan previously imposed a $5,000 cash bail on the defendant.

He said

In a freely given statement to the police, Diopulos said he cooked food for his family and when he was done, he told his girlfriend that he wanted to go to his cousin’s house to smoke marijuana.

He said his girlfriend got mad and spilled the food in the sink. Diopulos then got mad and kept slamming the pan in the sink until it broke. He said he tried to leave, but his girlfriend “tried to hold him back and ended up falling on a futon.”

Diopulos told the police that he did not remember hitting his girlfriend, but he “thinks he might have during the time he was trying to leave.”

He said he went out and “threw his bag off the balcony and was going to get the rest of his things” when his girlfriend locked him out of the apartment.

He said he “then started knocking on the door hard and ended up shattering the glass.”

‘Go ahead, and go’

For her part, the girlfriend said that after Diopulos told her that he was going to his cousin’s house, she replied, “go ahead and go.”

She said Diopulos then picked up the frying pan and slammed it in the sink causing it to break.

She said he also grabbed the highchair and was going to break it, but she tried to stop him.

She said Diopulos “pushed her on the futon and punched the back of her head, making her dizzy.”

She said Diopulos also slammed the highchair on the ground causing it to break and told her that he was going to “whack her.”

When he started to throw his things out, she said she ran to the door and locked it.

She said Diopulos kept punching the door, causing the glass on the door to shatter. She then called 911.
