Superior Court Associate Judge Perry Inos released Tian Hua Zheng to his friend Tao Hong Wu, who was represented by Assistant Public Defender Mike Brown.
Zheng applied for bail modification on Tuesday through Chief Public Defender Adam Harwicke.
The court set a $10,000 cash bond for his temporary liberty.
Wu told the court that she is currently working as a commercial cleaner in As Lito and her contract will expire in June 2011.
Inos lowered the cash bond amount to $5,000, but required Zheng to post an unsecured appearance bond.
Inos reminded the parties to follow the rules set by the court for third party custodians.
Zheng was arrested on Jan. 28, 2009 during a controlled buy-bust operation by members of the narcotics unit of the Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigation Division.
One gram of ice worth $500 was bought from Zheng by operatives, according to an affidavit signed by Detective Norman A.S. Rasiang.
Zheng pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to the prosecution, Zheng was contacted through a mobile phone by a cooperating defendant who wanted to buy “ice.”
Zheng arrived in a white Mazda and met with the buyer in the parking lot of a grocery.
The substance handed by Zheng to the buyer later tested positive for methamphetamine, police said.
Marked money was also recovered inside Zheng’s car.
On the same day, Presiding Judge Ramona Manglona signed and authorized a search warrant for Zheng’s residence on As Lito Road.
Two ziploc bags containing white crystalline substance were found at that residence that later tested positive for methamphetamine, police said.
A digital weighing scale was also seized from Zheng’s residence.
