On May 7, the gubernatorial tandem of former Sen. Juan T. Guerrero and House Floor Leader Joseph N. Camacho met the manamko’ and served them breakfast and a package of assorted food items.
Aging Center acting Director Rose DLG. Mondala said the senior citizens were very appreciative of the special recognition they received from the candidates despite the economic crisis.
Babauta told Variety that he and Deleon Guerrero wanted to show appreciation for the senior citizens’ contributions to the community.
“This is just an opportunity to thank the manamko’ for giving us, the younger generation, the experience of their wisdom and the knowledge they have acquired,” Babauta said.
He added, “We can express our appreciation without making it political and that’s what we’re doing today.”
Deleon Guerrero said the community should “honor our elderly” even if it’s not Older Americans Month.
He noted that he and Babauta are not only campaigning but providing community service, which include the islandwide cleanup they conducted recently.
Babauta said they are always willing to listen to the concerns of the manamko’.
“We’re here to give back to the senior citizens,” he added.
