Manamko’ receive rice donation from Korean group

Kim Gi-Yeong, who led the staff and officers of the Korean Tour Guides on Saipan, was impressed by the warm welcome provided to them by the manamko’ and staff of the Office on Aging.

Kim told Walter Manglona, Office on Aging supervisor, that their group will regularly donate goods to the manamko’ every year.

Yesterday they donate 30 sacks of rice worth $1,100.

Manglona said the donation will be distributed equally to the manamko’ who were present during yesterday’s ceremony.

But the senior citizens on Rota and Tinian will also get their share of the rice, he said.

Next year, Manglona said, the tour guide group will hand donations to the manamko’ in March and September.

“It’s not just rice, they will give us what the manamko’ need,” he said.

He said the senior citizens and the Office on Aging will be meeting to identify the needs of the elderly and “to give the donor ideas on what to give to the manamko’.”

Franciso Reyes, chairman of the manamko’ association, lauded the group for its generosity.
