The rest will help fund the band’s trip to the Olympic games in London next year.
“The concert was a huge success for us, and we were happy for the support we got from our teachers and local leaders,” Manta Ray Band conductor Will DeWitt told the Variety.
He said he was happy to see Congressman Gregorio Kilili Sablan, Marianas High School principal Craig Garrison, teachers, staff and students of Saipan Southern High School, and other members of the community. Garrison is the former principal of SSHS.
“The performance itself went very well, with the audience giving many extended periods of applause, including a standing ovation at the end,” DeWitt said.
The 42-piece, award-winning Manta Ray band has been invited to perform at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England and needs to raise some $300,000 for airfare and other expenses.
