Marianas High School holds Club Fair

Sablan, an 11th grade teacher, said the event allowed students to join a club focused on their interest, talents and capabilities.

“This will allow students to appreciate things that interest them,” she added.

As in previous years, the students were encouraged to join any of the clubs, she said.

Every year, MHS showcases the different clubs to encourage productive undertakings and projects within the school, Sablan said.

The event on Friday was held  during lunch break.

The participating clubs were the MHS Chamorro Club, the MHS Refalawasch Cultural Club, the Japanese Club, the Future Business Leaders of America Club, the Music Club, the Show Box, the Cooking Club, the 4-H Association, the Extreme Bible Club, MHS Productions, MHS American Red Cross, the Yap Club, Close-Up, Ski Trip and the Korean and Chinese Club.

Although they were not officially included in the Club Fair, some male students formed a group and called themselves “The Sexy Boys.”

The 4-H Association said its mission in the CNMI is to help young people become productive, self-directing, and contributing citizens of the community.

“We work with kids to promote and explore the different careers that are out in the open instead of just the jobs that are already well-known,” the club members said.

The turnout  was “very good,” Sablan said.

This week, she added, the organizing committee will evaluate each club to determine who has the highest student participation.
