Atalig will replace Justin S. Manglona whose term ended on June 15.
Rota Municipal Council Chairman George O. Hocog said they had to postpone Atalig’s confirmation due to the government shutdown.
The council has already advised Atalig to submit all requirements, including his drug test result, police clearance, résumé and his goals and plans for the commission.
Members of the community are also urged to submit their comments regarding the nomination of Atalig.
There are designated drop boxes in various stores on Rota for written comments, Hocog said.
In a separate interview, Mendiola said it is necessary to appoint a fourth member of the commission which is supposed to have five.
Last August, the commission elected its new officers: Laura Maria I. Manglona, as chairwoman; Ephrem S. Taimanao, vice chairman; and Abelina T. Mendiola, secretary.
Mendiola said the commission can do business legally with three members but it needs four members to issue casino licenses.
The mayor said he will not appoint a fifth member due to the government’s financial problems.
Hocog agreed. He said the mayor should put “on hold” the nomination of the fifth member.
