First, was the chief executives committee meeting yesterday followed by the 12th Micronesian Chief Executives Summit that will be held today and tomorrow.
The four FSM governors and FSM President Manny Mori will take advantage of being together on Guam and attend both meetings.
The committee meeting will be held in the FSM Consulate conference room to discuss three topics: overall arrangements and principles for the final packaging of the proposed FSM fisheries rehabilitation loan project, a tax reform update, and a briefing by the Center for Micronesian Empowerment group on Guam.
In preparation for the plenary session of the summit, which brings together the chief executives of Guam, the CNMI, Palau, the Marshalls and the FSM, committee meetings were held to create updates and recommendations for the chief executives.
These meetings were held from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2.
The following committees met: the Pacific Workforce Investment Council, the Invasive Species Council, the Micronesia Challenge, the Renewable Energy Committee, the Pacific Island Regional Recycling Initiative Committee, the Regional Transportation Committee, the Regional Tourism Council, the Regional Health Council, and the Micronesian Center for a Sustainable Future, of which Mori is the secretary general.
In addition to committee reports, there were also presentations given on the Guam military buildup program update by the Joint Guam Program Office, Military Expansion Assistance in the Insular Areas & U.S. Affiliated Islands, and on health disparities in the U.S. territories and Freely Associated States by the Regional Health District.
A joint communiqué is expected to be signed on Friday, Dec. 4.
