Superior Court Judge David A. Wiseman yesterday increased to $5,000 the $1,250 bail order on Sablan, who was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections after his initial appearance and bail hearing.
Assistant Attorney General Russel Lorfing represented the government, while the court appointed Chief Public Defender Adam Hardwicke as Sablan’s counsel.
Detective Patrick P. Sablan told the court that the incident occurred at the residence of the defendant’s mother in San Antonio, on Dec. 16, 2011 at about 8:35 a.m.
Responding Police Officer Stanley Patris met the mother on the road leading to her residence.
The mother said her son became violent and “she got scared,” so she took the children who were crying at that time and left the house.
Responding officers and the mother met Giovanni Sablan who told his mother that he would leave the house. He made an obscene hand gesture while cussing at his mother before leaving with his duffle bag.
The mother said everything was fine as they were having breakfast that morning when her son told her he wanted to use the car.
But his brother said he needed to go to Northern Marianas College where he is a student.
Giovanni Sablan then got mad, and started kicking the chairs as well as the kiddie bicycle outside the kitchen area, police said.
He later approached his brother, pushed him on the chest, and challenged him to a fight, police added.
The brother ignored Sablan who continued yelling and cussing at his sibling.
The mother then took the children who were already crying and left the house.
On Oct. 19, 2011, the Superior Court placed Sablan on two years probation after serving 58 days in Corrections facility.
Sablan admitted that he followed his girlfriend “while high on ‘ice’” on Aug. 20, 2011.
Sablan’s actions caused injury to his victim and disturbed her peace, the prosecution said.
Sablan, also known as Palaxi, is an MMA fighter, and a firefighter with the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport.
