More used cars sold in January-April

According to the report released by the Commonwealth Auto Dealers Association, the island’s three car dealers sold a total of 150 cars from January to April, while sales for brand new cars only reached 128 units for the same period.

For the four-month period, Microl Corp. sold the most number of used cars with 71 units, representing a 47.3 percent market share. Triple “J” followed with 41 units while Joeten Motors sold 38.

Last month, the three dealers sold 42 used cars, a 21 percent increase compared to the 33 brand new units sold for the whole month.

For the past months, sales for used cars, parts and services have been steadily increasing.

This, according to CADA, could be attributed to the uncertainty brought about by the looming federalization and the contraction in the market caused by the exodus of people from the CNMI.

For brand new car sales in April, Microl led with 14 vehicles sold, followed by Joeten Motor’s 11 and Triple “J” Motors’ eight.

On a year to date comparison, the 33 brand new units sold last month showed a 40 percent dip from the 55 units sold by the three dealers in April last year.

Toyota remains the top choice in brand sales, with 14 units sold last month.

This was followed by Mazda and Nissan with six each, Honda with three, Ford with two, and Hyundai and Suzuki with one unit sold each.

Joeten Motors distributes Nissan, Ford, Honda and Kia.

Microl Corp. sells Toyota and Chevrolet while Triple “J” Motors is the local dealer of Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Suzuki and Mazda.
